The Ensival Viaduct
In association with Franki, 4m Engineering took part in the renovation of two bridges at the Ensival Viaduct on the E42 Liege-Verviers motorway. The task of the 4m Engineering teams was to repair the concrete, to replace the expansion joints and to reseal them.
ON THE SIDES AND THE CURBS :
- Using different techniques, the first stage was to demolish the old concrete that had been impaired by de-icing salts by corbel sawing and using hydro-demolition to recover the reinforcement and manual staking.
- Next the sides were reinforced by re-covering the old girders with higher performant concrete.
- Then the teams applied a projected resin seal.
- Safety barriers meeting the new European standards were also put in place along with a noise-reduction screen for the well-being of the residents.
ON THE BRIDGE DECK :
- The entire roadway system was demolished to expose the concrete slab of the bridge.
- The concrete was repaired
- New expansion joints were laid
- The entire structure was made waterproof
- The wearing courses were given a hydrocarbon coating
- The central reservation was replaced by a new one complying with the current safety standards and integrated lamp posts
This 3,500 m² project started in May 2016 and lasted several months.
Surface: Waterproofing: 4,000 m² and hydrocarbon coating: 7,300 m²
